Actor Sharon Percy has joined the Exchange 1856 as head of customer service to support those looking to hire the historic North Shields venue.
Originally from Byker but now living in North Tyneside, Sharon has been a life-long actor starring in shows such as Vera, Byker Grove and film ‘I Daniel Blake’, as well as numerous theatre productions. Alongside her acting career, Sharon has also worked as an employment adviser in both North Tyneside and Northumberland helping people into work.
In her new role, Sharon will be responsible for supporting production companies, businesses and individuals who want to hire the auditorium or any of the flexible event spaces within the newly renovated building.
The Exchange 1856 has recently undergone an extensive seven-figure refurbishment, transforming the iconic North Shields landmark back to its former glory. Every single area of the building has been updated and improved - from the newly equipped 500-capacity auditorium to beautiful new meeting spaces, reception areas and fantastic new in-house bar and restaurant, Brown’s.
The Exchange 1856 is a key element of the North Shields Cultural Quarter and is part of wider investment in the area, through the Ambition for North Shields Programme.
Sharon is looking forward to welcoming people back through the doors of The Exchange 1856 when it officially launches on 10th November.
She said: “This role ticks all the boxes for me, combining both my creativity as an actor and my customer service skills honed over many years. It’s such an exciting time to be part of the team at The Exchange 1856. The building has been an integral part of North Shields life for many years but now it’s been given a much-needed makeover, it really is a spectacular asset for the entire North East region.”
